Nike has created the best slogan in the world! Just Do It.
It applies to athletes, skydivers, kids & parents, spider-killers and small business owners. Obviously, I’m being funny about the killing of spiders – none were harmed in the writing of this article – but the idea is to start as quickly and swiftly as possible, right? No matter what it is you want to do, just do it. Take the step. Write and publish the blog. Launch an app. Get the certification. Take the new gig. Cut your hair off. Color it purple. Whatever! JUST DO IT!
This is for all of you perfectionists out there. The ones hiding behind the idea that everything must be perfect at launch.
I totally get it! Don’t get me wrong, launching something that’s not up to our standards is a direct reflection of us. We have an image to protect and we want people to get the best version of us in every capacity.
You’re afraid of rejection. Or failure. Definitely afraid of being judged.
I’ll pause here and let you deny that for moment...
Ok, moving on.
It’s cool to feel these things, we all have fears on some level. Some of us have overcome them enough to just do it. (There’s totally a part of me that thinks you’ll judge this article right now and yet, here you are reading it!)
Here’s the cool thing though, once we start, we find that we CAN. We find that most of the people are so glad we did that they are in love with what we’ve done. They’ve wanted what you have to offer and couldn’t or wouldn’t do it themselves. You’ve solved a problem for someone. You inspired a co-worker to do something that once freaked them out. You’ve become the drop that ripples….
Yes. There will be some that will judge, but do you see them doing it? No? Then ask yourself if they really matter….
Talk yourself into it rather than finding all the reasons why you can’t.
If not you, then who?
If not now, then when?
Tomorrow is not guaranteed, take full advantage of today!
